TRACK & FIELD. Mr. Lavictoire

Track Fact #2 – The World Record in the women’s discus throw is held by Gabrielle Reinch of the former Republic of East Germany, who threw the implement a ridiculous 76.80 metres in 1988.

You’d better be careful though track fans, because if you were watching her toss the discus near one end of a soccer field and she was all the way at the other end, she could very well hit you between the eyes!

Track team sign-up sheets are posted just outside gym, and the first team meeting is Tuesday, February 21st, in Room 312 at lunch.

Track Fact #1 – The World Record in the men’s 100 metres is held by Usain Bolt of Jamaica, who SMASHED it during the summer of 2009 when he ran 9.58 seconds.  During the race, he was clocked at a max. speed of 44 kilometres an hour.  How fast is that?  If he were sprinting at top speed down Vine Street near Prince Philip public school, he could get pulled over by police and be given a citation and fine for speeding in a school zone.
